The report on migration in Russia composed by the National Strategy Institute and specialists of other science centers says that the number of migrants in the country will total half of the population by 2050, Yuga.ru reports.
The migration level is about to reach 30 million people. Migrants visiting Russia in the early 2000s differs from those seen in the 1990s. The ethnic characteristics, education level and skills and knowledge of the Russian language is different among migrants today.
The birth rate dropped to the rate in 1965. The reduction of the population started in 1992. It has dropped by 13 million people since then. Migration compensated the loss of 6.5 million people. There are about 16-18 million illegal migrants in the country. Over 8 million legal migrants have arrived since 1992. Igor Beloborodov, advisor director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, a co-author of the report, considers such figures a threat for the country.
He pointed out that most migrants were coming from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Many came from China.
