May 1 protesters arrested in Istanbul and Ankara

142 activists at the May 1 protests have been arrested in Istanbul and Ankara for allegedly provoking the police. 90 people, including 13 police officers, were injured.


The International Workers' Day of May 1 remained banned for 32 years in Turkey. The ruling Justice and Development Party lifted the ban in April 2010.
