Round-table conference on role of Abkhazia concluded in Sukhumi

Yuri Krupnov, head of the Monitoring Council of the Institute for Demography, Migration and Regional Development, said that the round-table conference entitled “Abkhazia in the modern world” had come up with a conclusion: responsible and friendly dialogue should be the basis for cooperation between the authorities, society and the expert community of Russia and Abkhazia.

Krupnov described the conference as reasonable and constructive. In his words, the participants in the conference agreed that passport-issuing and the integration of eastern districts in Abkhazia were the main problems that needed solutions. The participants proposed organizing a new round-table conference as a suitable format for further discussions, the expert stated.

Russia was represented by Yuri Krupnov, Alexander Panteleyev, deputy head of the Directorate of the Federal Migration Service in Krasnodar Territory, and Alexander Gushchin, deputy head of the subdepartment for post-Soviet countries at the RSUH. Abkhazia was represented by Ilya Gamisonia, Vitaly Gabniya, Vitaly Tarnava, Arda Inal-Ipa, Givi Gabniya and Sokrat Jinjolia.

The round-table conference focused on consolidation of Abkhazia and intensification of its relations with Russia. The conference was organized by the Aynar Media Center and the North South Center for Political Analysis.
