Immortal Regiment to march in six countries

Columns of the Immortal Regiment will march on streets of 450 cities and villages in six countries. About half a million people are expected to march with portraits of their relatives who fought in the Great Patriotic War, RIA Novosti reports.


The Immortal Regiment march was first organized in Tomsk in 2012. Over 5,000 people carried portaits of their relatives. About 200,000 people marched in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine in 2013. Israel, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus joined the event this year.


50 more cities and villages joined the Immortal Regiment just a few days before May 9. About 400 cities and villages wanted to partake in the march initially. Sevastopol, Yakutsk, Yevpatoria, Podolsk, Orenbug were some of the last cities to join, according to Sergey Kolotovnikov, one of the founders of the movement.


About 50,000 activists with portaits marched in Ufa on Wednesday. The Regiment made a march in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) yesterday. Founders of the Immportal Regiment expect 20,000 people to march in Tomsk, the origin of the event.
