Birth rate might go down in Russia

The demographic situation in Russia might become worse in the near future. The reason for this is the reduction of the number of women of childbearing age and a tendency to have only one or two children in families, the first deputy chairman of the Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, Olga Batalina said.

She also noted that 2013 was the first year of demographic growth, when the birth rate exceeded the death rate, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Batalina's forecast, the number of women in childbearing age will decrease significantly in the 2020s-2030s.
