430 ha of Georgian woodland was struck by fires this summer (720 ha
burned in the summer of 2009), the head of the Forest Agency Papun
Hachidze said, RIA Novosti reports.
Hachidze said that the main sources of fires have been neutralized.
The staff of the Forest Agency and Environmental Inspection was
assisted by the department for emergency situations of the Ministry of
Interior Affairs, as well as air units. The local and approximately
500 servicemen helped put out fires.
