Turkish minister says Soma mine had defects

Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said that the coal mine in Soma, where 301 people had died and 486 had been injured by an explosion, had obvious defects, Trend reports.

Yildiz emphasized that the incident should be investigated scrupulously.

Soma Holding, the company running the mine, will pay relatives of victims of the tragedy 350 million liras (about $166.6 million). 36 people, including chairman of the board of Soma Holding, have been detained. 8 people have been charged, the rest were released, as reported today.
