Today the Verkhny Lars/Kazbegi checkpoint, the only point on the border of Russia and Georgia through which automobile communication between two countries is carried out, operated at full capacity in both directions.
From today, the border control post is operating in standard mode, and on the temporary route both to Georgia and to Russia traffic is moving freely, the press service of the ministry of regional development and infrastructure of Georgia told Vestnik Kavkaza.
The deputy head of the press service of the ministry, Maka Dzhayani, pointed out that the length of the transition period from a temporary route to a main one is unknown.
The republic's general directorate of the ministry of emergency situations reminded why it was necessary for the first two days to use a temporary route in a particular mode.
"The road was opened in test mode because on the territory of the republic there was a certain number of trucks, and it was necessary first of all to allow through those people who had already been waiting for the checkpoint to open for quite a long time.
