Memorial to Yermolov opens in Pyatigorsk

A memorial to Alexey Yermolov, hero of the Great Patriotic War of 1812
and commander of Russian forces in the Caucasus, has been unveiled in
Pyatigorsk.

The 6-metre high equine statue was placed on Lermontov Street, near
the city's War Memorial and Eternal Flame, ITAR-TASS reports.

The three-ton bronze monument was made by Ravil Yusupov, famous for
his statues of Kisa Vorobyaninov and Ostap Bender (fictional
characters) in Tsvetnik Park and at Proval Lake.

The unveiling of the statue is dedicated to the 230th anniversary of
the city’s foundation.
