Is the internet a source of extremism in the North Caucasus?On June 17-18th a round-table discussion on ways of fulfilling state interests on the internet was held in Makhachkala. According to its participants, social networks in the North Caucasus are a platform for communication between extremists and recruiting militants.Officials of Dagestan and Chechnya, representatives of commercial companies working in the sphere of internet security, journalists and bloggers took part in the discussion.The Minister of Mass Media and Information of Dagestan, Aznaur Adjiyev, stated that the information space of the republic was developing separately from the all-Russian space. At the same time, information technologies have changed our life in such a way that the internet has become the main source of news and the main instrument for forming social conscientious.The round table discussed two possible ways of regulating internet content. On the one hand, there is restriction of access to forbidden information.
