Today the Apostolic Church of Armenia celebrates the Exaltation of the Cross, Novosti-Armenia reports.
The history of the holiday dates back to the first centuries of Christianity, when the first Bishop of Jerusalem, Jacob, found a piece of the Holy Cross and made it an object of veneration. According to another variant of the story, the Cross was found by the Byzantine Empress Helen. Holy Cross Day became even more popular in the seventh century, after Emperor Heraclius liberated it from the Persians.
The Cross for the Christians is the symbol of God's power and the Christ's innocent death.
