Some 2 million migrants will have to start learning the Russian language in 2015, Deputy Head of the Russian Federal Migration Service Anatoly Fomenko said, ITAR-TASS reports.
The Service introduce a bill on adaptation of foreigners in Russia. Starting on January 1, 2015, foreign workers willing to get residency permits, excluding highly-skilled specialists, will need to pass tests in Russian language, history and law. 3.5 million people may need to be tested. 1.5 to 2 million of them may need extra classes.
311 language courses have been created for foreigners to study the language. A third of them are financed by the Federal Migration Service and the Russian Orthodox Church and offer free classes.
