African plague has been registered on two farms in the Krasnoarmeysk
region of Krasnodar Territory, threatening animal breeding in the
region, the Governor of Kuban Alexander Tkachov said, Yuga.ru reports.
One of them is 500 m away from the Novomyshastov Cossack village and
300 m away from the Krasnodar-Temruk road. All 7,000 pigs on the farms
were destroyed and a quarantine was introduced. A radius of 5 km
around the settlement has been established as the first threat zone,
the second threat zone has a radius of 100 km. The territory is
undertaking a set of measures against the plague.
According to the regional administration, there are 1,100,000 pigs on
the Krasnodar Territory, one third of them belonging to private
individuals. Over 100,000 people in Kuban are involved in
pig-breeding.
The Vice-Governor of the Territory, Yevgeniy Gromyko, said that all
the responsible departments are operating round-the-clock. There are
quarantine posts established on the border with the Rostov Region.
Forests and natural parks are under control, specialists are
monitoring wild boars. Controls over imports and exports have been
introduced.
