Dagestan is celebrating ‘White cranes’ and the 87th anniversary of its founder Rasul Gamzatov, a great modern poet. The celebrations started near the Russian Drama theater of Gorky. Authorities, officials, representatives of science and cultural spheres, guests from all over the country were there, RIA Dagestan reports.
The memorial was opened by Dagestani President Magomedsalam Magomedov and the chairman of the Writers’ Union of Dagestan Magomed Akhmedov.
Magomedov reminded that Gamzatov is the Hero of Socialists Labor, who was awarded with the Lenin, State and international prizes and became the symbol of republic.
Celebrations of the ‘White cranes’ became a traditional All-Russian holiday with writers and poets gathering together.
