Migration to North Caucasus worsens situation

Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said that 800,000 foreigners and apatrides, an eighth of whom were registered, had arrived in the North Caucasus since the start of the year, RIA Novosti reports.

Some of them had arrived from the south-eastern part of Ukraine, where fighting between the government and separatists in Donbass has been ongoing for three months. Chaika noted that the situation in the North Caucasus was complicated. In his words, terrorism was the main cause of instability (98% of terrorist attacks in Russia in 2013 happened in the North Caucasus).
