Nelli Tabuyev, the head of the section for protection of monuments of the South Ossetian Culture Ministry, said that students of a local state university had found remains of a church of the 8th century.The students were having undergraduate archeological training in the Tskhinvali District and found the church. The remains will most likely be conserved due to brittle walls of the building. Excavation will continue next year.
