The Russian State Duma's commission for monumental art has approved
the construction of a memorial to cello player and conductor Mstislav
Rostropovich. At first the memorial was to be built at the Moscow
International Music Center, but then they decided to build it at a
different central Moscow location, Interfax reports, citing the
advisor to the president of Rostropovich Fund, Armen Popov.
The memorial is expected to be built using non-budget finances as a
gift to the city. Sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov and architect, the
main artist of Moscow Igor Voskresensky are the authors of the
memorial. The monument will resemble a musician playing a cello.
