Russian Mufti Council wants Muslim cemetery in Moscow

 

Tagir Gallyamov, deputy head of the Russian Mufti Council, asked Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin to consider granting 2.7 hectares of land in the Domodedovo District to open a Muslim cemetery, Izvestia reports.Muslims have cemeteries in different parts of Moscow but not enough for the second largest religious community of the city. The Danilovskoye Cemetery has the largest Muslim cemetery in the city. The Butovskoye Cemetery has space for Muslims.Gallyamov said that authorities of Moscow and the Moscow Region had been planning to grant 25 hectares of land in the Solnechnogorsky District of the Moscow Region in 2000.The Vagankovskoye Cemetery gave space for the Armenian Cemetery on request of elder of the Armenian community in Moscow Minas Lazarev in 1805. The first Jewish Cemetery opened on the territory of “new Moscow” in May 2014.
