Polish prosecutor says politics will not affect Zakayev case

Polish Prosecutor General Andrzej Seremet promised that a decision on
the extradition of Chechen separatist leader Ahmed Zakayev will not be
affected by political considerations. Russian Prosecutor General Yuri
Chaika and Seremet have discussed Zakayev's detainment in a telephone
conversation, RIA Novosti reports, citing a prosecution spokesperson.

Seremet confirmed that Zakayev is on the international wanted list for
grievous crimes, including terrorism, and is currently detained in
Poland. He added that they will work on the case according to
bilateral agreements between Russia and Poland.

Chaika said that he has all the additional investigation information.
He promised that if Zakayev is extradited his rights will be respected
according to international laws.

Vestnik Kavkaza reported earlier that Polish Premier Donald Tusk said
on Friday that the decision on Zakayev will be made according to the
national interests of Poland.

Zakayev was detained on Friday and taken to the district prosecution
office of Warsaw, where he was planning to go to answer Russian
allegations.

Zakayev arrived in Poland to participate in the Third World Chechen Congress.
