In his speech at the UN General Assembly Georgian President Mikhail
Saakashvili spoke about healthcare projects, Georgia Online reports.
He said that since 2003 Georgia has been working on reforming
healthcare. He said that Sandra Elizabeth Rulofs is working on such
problems as AIDS and tuberculosis.
The president also spoke on the gender issue and children's healthcare.
The Georgian authorities have decided to close down the Agency for
Healthcare and Social Programs, and the Minister of Healthcare Andria
Urushadze confirmed the information. The initiative may also be
related to the scandal around the former deputy minister of healthcare
Nikoloz Pruidze wastefully spending $945 000 on immunization.
Two companies, JPC and En-Firma' were participating in the tender for
purchasing vaccine to measles, rubella and mumps. 'En-Firma' won
despite the fact that JPC offered better conditions. The tender was to
be judged by Paata Imnadze, head of the National Agency for Disease
Control, and his deputy. The company that won the tender bought
cheaper vaccine and overpriced their expenses.
