The Israeli police were on full alert on Friday as the authorities were afraid that the celebration of Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha on one and the same day could result in violence.
The Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur and the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha are marked on the same day once every 33 years.
Both Israeli chief rabbis as well as Muslim clerics and activists called for all necessary measures to prevent violence.
However the celebration proceeded in a calm atmosphere. The only clashes took place in the northern part of Jerusalem.
