The All-Russian Society for the Disabled has proposed renaming Novaya Moskva Street after LUKOIL Head Vagit Alekperov, according to Igor Fedotov, the head of the Society. A related request has already been sent to the prefecture of the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative districts. The initiative should serve as a tribute to Alekperov's philanthropy, Izvestia reports.
According to the law, only new streets can be named after people and can only be named after people who died 10 years ago. The only exception is the Moscow mayor or the Russian president, who may rename streets at will.
Alekperov is the founder of the Nashe Budushcheye Fund. The list includes actress Chulpan Khamatova, the founder of the Podari Zhizn Fund, actor Constantine Khabensky, the founder of a fund for children with oncological diseases, Ilya Segalovich, the director of the Deti Marii art and rehabilitation fund and co-founder of Yandex.
