Death toll in Iranian blast grows

12 people died and 80 were injured in an explosion in north-western
Iran, RIA Novosti reports, citing IRNA.


The explosion happened in Mahabad, in West Azerbaijan province, at a
military parade dedicated to the Iran-Iraq war of 1980-1988. The
explosive device was hidden in a bag and activated in the crowd.


The head of the Medical University of West Azerbaijan, Nosratollah
Mollazadeh, said that 16 people were taken to hospital in Mahabad and
27 taken to Urmia. The rest received light injuries.


The Governor of West Azerbaijan province, Vahid Jalalzade, said that
he considers counter-revolutionary groups to be responsible for the
terrorist attack.
