Turkey forbids cadets from watching Game of Thrones

Turkey has forbidden cadets from watching the Game of Thrones series to protect the future officers “from sexual exploitation, pornography, exhibitionism, violence, harassment and other negative behaviour,” RIA Novosti reports.

Four teachers of a military school in Istanbul were fired in 2012 for allowing cadets to watch the series. The Turkish army is opposed to the series because one of the nations depicted as “barbaric” in the Game of Thrones resembles Turks. Moreover, characters in the series are seen drinking alcohol and being involved in “pornographic” scenes. The court allowed the fired officers to get their jobs back in 2013, but the defense minister insisted on a renewal of the investigation.
