Stoltenberg: we want to resume direct contact with Russia

NATO would like to have a better sense of contact with Russia in order to achieve greater transparency and predictability, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated.

"I agree with the need to have live contact and sense the presence of contact, we would like to sense better contact in order to achieve greater transparency," he said after a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Foreign Ministers.

Stoltenberg also reminded that the alliance "has decided to suspend all practical cooperation." "But we keep open channels of political dialogue. There have been two meetings of the NATO-Russia Council since the crisis began, the channels for political communication are open. There is also contact between NATO and the Russian military," the Secretary General of NATO is quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Stoltenberg, "there must be the will on both sides and trust in contacts." NATO "would like to see the ability to have more transparency and predictability, to avoid situations that can get out of control," Stoltenberg added.
