In homes and offices not only of Elbrus district, but also in the entire Elbrus region of Kabardino-Balkaria, there will be almost no live Christmas trees, the head of the press-service of the district administration Alice Tarim said.
"This year, in all institutions, kindergartens and schools in the district, artificial Christmas trees will be decorative, there won’t be any live ones. I think in most homes and apartments it will be the same," Tarim is quoted by RIA-Kabardino-Balkaria.
The head of the press-service said that the Elbrus region had previously suffered heavy damage from illegal felling of trees before the New Year holiday. Now there is a ban on illegal felling, and the administration of the National Park strictly monitors its execution.
"And the population easily rejetted the use of live Christmas trees, understanding that if it is forbidden to chop – it is forbidden for everybody. We can say that artificial Christmas trees have become a good tradition of the region. I must say that when it was forbidden to chop down trees, the population of animals began to grow, even ordinary people, not only specialists, can notice it," the head of the Kabardino-Balkar administration press-service said.
