And employee of the traffic police of the Road Patrol Service of the Nizhnevartovsk region in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region, at the cost of his own car and health, saved children from a bus which drove into a truck in the oncoming lane.
The accident occurred at the 85 km mark of the Nizhnevartovsk-Radujniy highway. Two buses were travelling with children from the village of Novoagansk to Nizhnevartovsk. The convoy was accompanied by the patrol police car of Road Patrol Service of Russia’s Nizhnevartovsk Region, Auto.mail.ru reports, referring to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia’s Yugra Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region
Two vehicles loaded with gravel were travelling towards the convoy on the road ahead of the buses. The driver of one of them, seeing the flashing beacons of the patrol car, slowed down, passing the convoy. However, the driver following him did not stay at a safe distance. There was an impact, after which one of the vehicles was washed up on the hard shoulder.
Seeing the approaching truck, Road Petrol Service Deputy Commander Dmitry Shpak blocked its way with his patrol car, not allowing a collision with the buses. As a result of the accident the police officer received serious injuries and was hospitalized. Doctors assess his condition as serious but stable, the children on the buses were not injured.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Interior in KhMAR, Dmitry Shpak will be proposed for a state award. The police service is preparing the relevant papers to be sent to Moscow for the President to sign.
