About 200 workers of the Nairit factory in Yerevan have organized a new protest at the president's office today. They are demanding salaries for 18 months. They said that salaries for only a month had been paid in early December and the sums were too low, especially in the light of the falling dram, Epress.am reports.
Anush Arutyunyan, the spokesman of the factory, said that workers fired before November had not been paid. In his words, the government did not find 60 million drams to pay people for the New Year. The government owes 5 billion drams. The official reminded that the government had not invested a penny in the factory for 5-6 years.
Armenian Prime Minister Obik Abramyan had met with the workers earlier and promised payments in January.
