Conference of Russian compatriots in Yerevan

The third conference of Russian compatriots will be held in the Moscow House in Yerevan on October 2-3, News Armenia reports, citing the press-service of Russian Cooperation office in Armenia.


The conference was organized by the Coordination Council of Social Organizations of Russian Compatriots of Armenia, supported by Russian Cooperation organization in Armenia.


The conference will discuss the goals of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Armenia, the law on Russian state policy for compatriots living abroad and other issues.


Russian Ambassador to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko, representatives of state and social organizations will participate in the conference.


Participants of the conference will visit the Honor Hill memorial in Giumri, where the Russian officers who liberated Armenia from the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century are buried.


There are 15 000 Russians living in Armenia. Russian citizens of Armenian origin are a special group. There are 5 social organizations of compatriots operating in Armenia: ‘Russia’, ‘Slav House’, ‘Russians’, ‘Moscow Cultural and Business Center’, Harmony’, the fund of help and support for Russian compatriots in Armenia.
