Boston to compete with St. Petersburg and Istanbul for 2024 Olympics

The National Olympic Committee of the US has nominated Boston for the title of the capital of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in 2024.

Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco were considered earlier for this title. The Olympic Committee believes that the US application has a good chance of success, because in 2024 it will be 28 years since the last Olympic games in North America, when Atlanta was the Olympic capital.

US President Barack Obama supports the candidacy of Boston. "This city has taught us all what it means to be strong, strong like Boston," he said, regarding the terrorist attacks in April 2013. "The president and first lady are extremely proud of this achievement and of all the athletes of our country, and strongly support efforts to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 in the United States. We hope to welcome athletes from around the world to the competition in Boston in 2024," RIA Novosti quotes Obama.
