Today in France the tragic events launched on January 7 with the attack on the Paris office of ths Charlie Hebdo magazine, in which 12 people were killed, have developed further.
Dammarten-en-Goel in Seine-et-Marne yesterday morning sent reports of a shooting. The next report said that the gunman had taken one hostage.
Soon it became known that the people responsible for these actions may be the brothers Said and Sheriff Kuachi, the prime suspects in the terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo office. Later, this information was confirmed.
After learning about the incident, French law enforcement authorities surrounded the attackers in a local industrial zone, and began to prepare for a special operation. Meanwhile, news came of terrorist attack in Paris. At about 13:00 (15:00 Moscow time) an unidentified man took hostages in a kosher store near Portrs de Vincennes.
Later it became known that this man was Amedie Coulibaly, who knew the Kuachi brothers and negotiated with them about synchronizing their actions. According to reports, he may also be responsible for the murder committed yesterday in Montrouge of a woman police officer. Law enforcement agencies have attempted to negotiate with him, and he demanded to free the Kuachi brothers.
So the officers here also began to prepare for a special operation. Both special operations began almost simultaneously at 17:00 (19:00 Moscow time). In Dammarten-en-Goel police managed to rescue the hostage. The two Kuachi brothers, who had previously stated about their decision to become "martyrs", were eliminated.
The operation in Paris ended tragically. According to media reports, four of the hostages died. Interior Minister Bernard Cazaneuve has confirmed the deaths of the hostages, but has not specified the exact number of victims. "I am deeply saddened by the deaths of several people who have lost their lives as a result of these tragic events of hostage-taking today," RIA Novosti cited him.
Another four hostages were seriously injured. In addition, during the operations two policemen were injured. Coulibaly was eliminated but his accomplice Hyatt Boumediene somehow managed to escape.
In the near future French President Francois Hollande is expected to make a speech to the nation in which he will summarize these three tragic days.
