Today Moscow hosted a ceremonial meeting devoted to the 260th anniversary of the founding of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov. The event began with a rendition of the Russian national anthem. After that, the audience was entertained with the performance of dance groups and the University Academic Choir of Moscow State University under the guidance of Mirza Askerov.Then congratulations to the main university of the country was read by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He noted that the University is rightfully famous for its rich history, traditions, teachers, enthusiasm for business people and asthaetics. The President also pointed out that MSU has impressive successes and achievements. The President wished prosperity to the university and the allthe best to the university staff.Rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy spoke subsequently. He said that today in the hall a lot of people were gathered: MSU Corporation workers, rectors of Russian universities, distinguished guests, representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, students and graduate students, who will soon decide the fate of the University and multiply its power.Then Victor Sadovnichy reminded the attendees of four centuries in the glorious history of MSU.The 21st century, according to the rector, arrived in a difficult situation. In the 1990s, even the idea of the privatization of the university and the establishment of a joint stock company emerged, but the collective spirit rallied and rebuffed all calls. Then the University became stronger and powerfully entered the 21st century.Victor Sadovnichy listed the main achievements of Moscow State University. The University is now a leader in the field of satellite launches and information technology. MSU scientists have the most powerful supercalculator. MSU created Noah's Ark – the depository of all living cells on Earth, and built the technological valley "Sparrow Hills". It created a school for gifted children. The university also doubled the size of its campus, and in the next few years it is planned to increase it threefold."These figures are not available to other universities in the world," the rector said.All this, according to the rector, is the merit of the people of Moscow State University.The event continued with the presentation of the Lomonosov and Shuvalovsky Prize in 2014.After that, the ceremony of awarding honorary professorships of Moscow State University was held. The honorary titles were conferred on the head of the Baku branch of Moscow State University, Nargiz Pashayeva, for an outstanding contribution to the creation and establishment of a branch of the Moscow State University, and also to Monash University Professor Bernd Meyer.Congratulations to MSU were sent by Valentina Matviyenko the Federation Council Speaker, Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, head of the Russian actors, ambassadors, MPs, senators, presidents of other Russian and foreign universities, as well as Russian cosmonauts Alexander Samokutyaev, Anton Shkaplerov and Elena Serov from the ISS.
