Azerbaijani People’s Poet and public figure Vagif Samadoglu died Wednesday morning.
Samadoglu had been suffering from cancer for a long time, his family told APA.
Vagif Samad oglu Vekilov was born on June 5th 1939 in Baku in the famous Azerbaijani poet Samad Vurgun’s family. He graduated from the Bulbul School of Music and the Azerbaijani State Conservatoire named after Uzeyir Hajibeyov. He attended a course at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky (1962-1963).
Later, Samadoglu worked as a piano teacher in the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in 1963-1971s. He worked as a director in the literary department at the "Azerbaijanfilm" cinema studio (1982-1985). His first creative work, “Seven poems”, was published in the Azerbaijan journal, 1963. Thereafter he was editor-in-chief of the “Oğuz eli” newspaper (1992-1994) and also an MP in the Azerbaijani Parliament in 2000-2005.
