There is still the threat of the collapse of the building of the library of the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences (INION), where a fire was put out late the previous night, according to EMERCOM in Moscow.
Rescuers continue dismantling the ruins and hosing down the structure. Specialists are carrying out air sampling. The maximum allowable concentration of harmful substances has not been exceeded, but the MOE recommends residents of nearby houses not to open their windows. Today it became known that the heads of INION intend to ask Russian President Vladimir Putin for help from the budget, Lenta.ru reports.
The fire in the main library of INION, which lasted more than a day, was extinguished at approximately 23:30 MSK yesterday. According to preliminary data, the fire affected about 15% of the book fund. The fire was at third rank complexity out of five possible. The area of the fire was two thousand square meters. There was a partial collapse of the roof over an area of about a thousand square meters.
