Chechnya has introduced unprecedented measures in the fight against
bride kidnapping, Yuga.ru reports. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov had
said earlier that bride kidnapping is neither a Chechen or a Muslim
tradition.
Bride kidnapping is violence and and offensive to the bride"s family.
Such practice violates Chechen traditions and starts conflict between
families, leading to long hostilities between families sometimes, head
of the Chechen Muslim Clerical Administration Sultan Mirzayev said.
He also said that both Islamic and Russian laws forbid kidnapping.
Last year 4 people, including the kidnapped bride, died in a traffic
accident when they tried to avoid pursuit.
From now on both the kidnapper and the religious figure who permitted
the wedding will be held responsible, Mirzayev said.
