Brussels urges Kiev to respect freedom of speech and the press

In connection with Ukraine's blacklists of Russian journalists, an EU representative has urged the country's authorities to "respect freedom of speech and of the press."

"We stress the importance of respecting freedom of speech and of the press," TASS cited him.

"Any limits (in the media) are obliged to comply with international standards, that is, to be justified by the threat to compliance with other freedoms and to be open to judicial review," the official stressed.

He has also tried to convince the Ukrainian authorities to stop the killing and kidnapping of correspondents in the East of Ukraine.
