Russian President cuts salaries in Kremlin administration by 10%

Salaries in the Kremlin administration will be cut by 10%, President Vladimir Putin told an operational meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council of Russia.

“Outside the context of the agenda of the meeting, Vladimir Putin informed the members of the Security Council about his decision to cut the presidential administration salaries by 10%,” TASS cited the president's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the head of the Kremlin administration Sergey Ivanov, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and his deputy Rashid Nurgaliev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov and permanent member of the Security Council of Russia Boris Gryzlov.

Back in December 2014, the Russian president signed amendments to the law on civil service, suspending the rate of indexation to the inflation level of salaries of civil servants working in the presidential administration, the government apparatus, the Chamber of Accounts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and its territorial bodies for one year.

In January-September 2014, according to Rosstat, the average salary in the presidential administration was 216,411 rubles. State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin asked the factions of the Chamber to discuss the possibility of reducing the salaries of MPs, and this initiative was supported by all four factions.

Naryshkin was supported by the Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, who proposed to cut the salaries of senators by 10%. She assured that as soon as the decisions are made in both chambers of parliament, the Federation Council and the State Duma will appeal to the president, who regulates the salaries of MPs and senators by presidential decree.
