The Verkhny Lars crossing post in North Ossetia is closed again due to worsening weather conditions, which greatly increased the danger of avalanches on the Cross Pass, located on the territory of Georgia, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of North Ossetia reports.
The Georgian Military Road is thus not open from 8:00 MSK until further notice. "Following the recommendations of Georgia’s Darial border checkpoint, traffic on the road from 8:00 MSK on Thursday was suspended due to the danger of avalanches," RIA Novosti cited the report.
The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of North Ossetia in a conversation with Vestnik Kavkaza confirmed the closure of the Georgian Military Road road to ensure the safety of passing. "Due to the bad weather conditions from the Georgian side, it was recommended to close the road, because it is impossible to ensure safe passage through it," the department explained.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of North Ossetia will open heating and feeding centers for drivers and passengers in the near future. "Two heating centers for those people travelling to Georgia will be opened. In addition, feeding centers will be opened. There will be hot tea. A hotel and a cafe are also not far from checkpoint, so basically there is no collapse," the press service said.
It's impossible to predict when traffic on the Georgian Military Road will be restored at the moment, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said. "It all depends on the weather. It will be opened as soon as possible," the department promised.
