Painting by Van Gogh found in Turkey

A painting allegedly written by Vincent Van Gogh has been seized by police in northern Turkey, the Milliyet newspaper reports.

Law enforcement officers found a post about the sale of a painting by the famous Dutch painter on the Internet. Police officers arranged a meeting at which the seller was detained and the canvas seized.

The picture was sent for examination to the Gaziosmanpashi University, whose specialists with high probability confirmed the authenticity of the work, RIA Novosti reported.

On the reverse side of the canvas inscriptions were discovered "by Vincent Van Gogh, The Hague, 1882", "Dalema Museum", "Man from a shelter, standing." A pencil sketch of this painting is kept in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The most expensive work by Van Gogh is the painting "Portrait of Dr. Gachet", which was sold in May 1990 at the auction house Christie's for $82.5 million.
