Human rights activists criticize Iran's authorities for demographics

International human rights organization Amnesty International has criticized the efforts of the Iranian authorities to increase the birth rate in the country.

Iranian authorities had previously submitted several bills that would require to motivate women to have more children. One of the laws prohibits the advertising of contraceptives, and forbids women from undergoing voluntary sterilization.

Another bill includes a number of restrictions on employment for women who have no children. According to human rights advocates, such legislative initiatives are an encroachment on the rights of women, the BBC reports.
