The investigation has ended into the mass fight at the Yevgeniya Café and the hospital in Mineralniye Vody that took place in September 2014. Yekaterina Danilova, senior assistant of the head of the Stavropol Territory Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee, said that 27 people were suspected of hooliganism and murder, TASS reports.
According to investigators, alcohol was a factor in the fight. Andranik Tsakanyan and Yevgeny Smirnov hit a visitor of the café, Roman Savchenko, on the head with a bottle. Savchenko and his friends Anatoly Larionov and Ruslan Abdulzhalilov went to the Mineralniye Vody Hospital for medical aid.
Tsakanyan broke into the hospital with a group of people, brutally beat Larionov, resulting in his death afterwards, and injured Abdulzhalilov and nurse Nina Stanka.
The video of their acts in the hospital provoked public outrage in Russia. Some police officers and functionaries lost their jobs or were demoted in the course of the case. Local cafes and restaurants changed schedules to close before 11.00pm. The regional parliament is working on a bill to restrict sales of alcohol at night.
All 33 suspects in the case were quickly identified. The investigators have enough material for the prosecutors.
