The tomb of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has been almost completely levelled in fighting near Tikrit, which was recaptured from Islamic State militants last week.
According to eyewitnesses, the mausoleum has been nearly razed to the ground. Also, posters of the former Iraqi President were swapped for flags of Shiite militias and posters of Shiite leaders in Iran, Gazeta.ru reports.
Saddam Hussein was the President of Iraq from 1979 to 2003. In 2006, Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging.
