Turkmenistan announces regular conscription

The President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, signed a decree on the transfer of soldiers doing military service from the armed forces and other troops of Turkmenistan to the reserve forces and the next conscription of Turkmen citizens to military service.


The document provides for the dismissal of soldiers doing military service on conscription, who have served the statutory period, to the reserve forces in April-June 2015.


The decree also provides for the conscription of male citizens of Turkmenistan not eligible for deferment, who have reached the age of 18 by the day of conscription and older citizens who have lost the right to deferment from military service during this period, Trend reports.


Turkmenistan borders Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan on land, and with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran on the Caspian Sea.
