The police have detained Ararat Grigoryan, the father of Armenian defector Andranik Grigoryan, and taken him to a police station in Martuni. Defense Minister Seyran Oganyan said today that an explanation for Andranik’s betrayal should be searched for in the family, Epress.am reports.
The minister noted that the soldier and his family had tense relations. Another theory is problems with the soldier’s commanders, though Oganyan added that the small mortar squad Andranik served in was not prone to hazing.
Andranik Grigoryan, born in 1991, entered Azerbaijani territory on March 22 and turned himself in to the Azerbaijani forces. He explained that he was tired of chaos and hunger in the Armenian army.
