The jurors in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will retire to consider their verdict today, after hearing the final statement from government prosecutors and from Tsarnaev's defense.
If Tsarnaev is convicted, he could be sentenced to death. It is assumed that his lawyers will place the main emphasis on the fact that life imprisonment is sufficient punishment for him. In addition, the defense intends to use the fact that his older brother Tamerlan, who was killed by police officers, maintained a strong influence over Dzhokhar.
The defendant pleads not guilty, Interfax reports.
