Russian communist leader is proud to see Caucasus doing well

CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov said in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza today that the Caucasus was one of the most interesting regions of Russia and a place where many nations formed one family. He called for peace, stability and prosperity in the Caucasus. In his words, all places from Samur through Derbent, Makhachkala, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Stavropol Territory have their own fate, history and unique sites.

Zyuganov said that he had visited Kubachi crafters, Tsey Gorge, climbed Elbrus six times, been to Dombay and the Gumbashi Pass.

In his opinion, an important factor of stability in Russia and the Caucasus was respect for the multinational nature of the Russian state. The politician said that no peace would be possible without the Russian spirit, language and culture.

He reminded that the Battle of the Caucasus predetermined the outcome of the Great Patriotic War, the 70th anniversary of Victory and peace. Hitler had tried to get revenge in the Caucasus after failing in Moscow, added Zyuganov. The legendary Edelweiss Division was well-armed and trained. It was planning to storm Grozny but got stuck in Malgobek. Zyuganov said that 80% of fuel of the Soviet Army had come from Baku and Grozny.
