9 die in flooding in south Russia

At least nine people died in flooding caused by excessive rains in several residential areas in Russia's southern Krasnodar Territory, RIA Novosti quotes local emergency ministry representative.

"Identities of those dead are to be established," the spokesman said, adding that "seven villages and 17 residential areas are flooded". About 300 people were evacuated. Local authorities imposed an emergency status in the area.

The number of natural disasters in the world may double during the next 10 to 15 years, the head of WWF Russia's climate program Alexei Kokorin said on Wednesday. Climate change will lead to a growth in a power and a number of hazardous meteorological events in the world, Kokorin said.
