Russian bikers from the 'Night Wolves' motorcycle club have launched a campaign called 'Flame of memory - flame of unity' today, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
One of the organizers of the commemorative event, vice-governor of the Oryol region, Bekhan Ozdoev, told Vestnik Kavkaza that the participants of the rally will bring a particle of the Eternal Flame from Moscow to Oryol.
According to him, this idea came on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. "We talked with the 'Night Wolves', with our veterans, and decided to make an event of the Flame of Victory, a so-called Flame of Memory, to be carried to all constituent parts of the Russian Federation. We must always remember these feats and victories," he said.
At the same time, he is confident that "not everyone understands that the victory was achieved by the Soviet Union, the Soviet people. I think that the rest of the constituent parts of the Russian Federation will support this idea, and the flame will be carried across the country. We will be glad to help. I think the 'Night Wolves' will also support this idea."
Bekhan Ozdoev said that the route will begin from the walls of the Kremlin, "then we're going to the hero-city of Tula, then to Oryol."
The head of 'Night Wolves', Alexander Zaldostanov, aka 'the Surgeon', said that he would do everything "to deliver a letter from the veterans of the Tula and Oryol regions to the border in time and pass it to the guys that are going to take it to the veterans of Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria.
He told Vestnik Kavkaza that he was grateful to the Caucasus for its continuing contribution to the defense of the Fatherland. "Now I have the opportunity to convey thanks to all the people of the Caucasus on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory," he said.
