According to the director of the Georgian National Film Center, Nana Janelidze, Georgian film director Rezo Chkheidze has died at the age of 88, RIA Novosti reports.
Chkheidze was born on December 8, 1926 in the Georgian city of Kutaisi. From 1943 to 1946 he was a student at the Rustaveli Theatre Institute. In 1953 he graduated from the department of film directing of the State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). His most well-known film is Father of a Soldier.
