Today Astana is holding a military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II and Defenders of the Fatherland Day, which is celebrated in Kazakhstan today. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, President Nursultan Nazarbayev, will deliver a speech.
Around 5000 military personnel will parade 200 weaponry units and equipment, 70 helicopters and planes.
Awarding the veterans, Nazarbayev stressed that "this is just a small part of what this generation can give to you". "The whole country and the whole world are grateful to you for defending us from fascism," TASS cited him.
After the parade and festivities, six war veterans and President Nazarbayev will travel to Moscow to attend the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.
